LEOPARD Investment Chairperson Carl Irwin has commended President Hakainde Hichilema for reforms in the energy sector, saying they have made projects bankable and attractive to investors.
Mr. IRWIN said the Leopards Hill 250-megawatt solar project, with 600 megawatts of battery energy storage, is a world-class initiative and will be among the largest battery energy storage systems in Africa. He made the remarks during the launch of the project at Kyindu Farm in Chongwe.
Independent Power Producer Globeleq Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Hoffman said the project is a major step in providing reliable, dispatchable power, essential for industry during peak periods. He added that Globeleq’s investment supports government’s goal to triple copper production to three million metric tonnes per year.
Meanwhile, ZESCO Board Chairperson Vickson Ncube said the company’s 2026–2035 strategic plan will strengthen substations and create new transmission lines to improve power delivery nationwide.
Acting Minister of Energy Rodney Sikumba said the project will contribute to diversifying Zambia’s energy mix, noting that under President Hichilema’s leadership, the ministry has continued to prioritize investment in power generation.
Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo thanked President Hichilema for his visionary leadership, while Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata described the project as not only a milestone for the energy sector but also a massive victory for the province and the nation.
